Wind is a fundamental metocean parameter. Distant wind systems generate ocean swells, whilst local winds are a major determinant of the sea state – an important factor for marine safety. Winds may drive coastal processes such as upwelling, which is of interest to fisheries and ecologists. Perhaps most importantly, wind can make or break your day at the beach!

These data are produced in-house by the high resolution SAWS Unified Model forecasting system. They are also used to drive our wave and storm surge models.
